The Book Café was a celebrated Harare gathering place for live music, poetry, conversation and independent creative work. Founder Paul Brickhill and the artists who passed through the space helped give it a strong cultural identity.

When its Samora Machel Avenue premises closed in June 2015, Music In Africa and the Zimbabwean press documented how the decision affected both established and emerging artists.

Contemporary reporting recalls the presence of Chiwoniso Maraire, Andy Brown, Edith WeUtonga, Dudu Manhenga, Stella Chiweshe, Busi Ncube and Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana. Appearing at a venue is not the same as being trained or discovered by it; each artist's relationship needs its own evidence.

We want to collect properly licensed event flyers, posters, venue memories, set lists and interviews with the sound crews and organisers who helped make an evening at Book Café memorable.
