James Manyika was born and educated in Zimbabwe and earned a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Zimbabwe. He went on to postgraduate study in artificial intelligence and robotics at Oxford University.

Google lists Manyika as a senior vice president responsible for Research, Labs, Technology and Society. His work focuses on how advances in AI, computing and science can benefit people, and how technology affects economies and communities.

His career has also included leading research at the McKinsey Global Institute and public-policy advisory roles. Oxford’s professional biography provides a sourced overview of his work and qualifications.

The story is not that success has to happen overseas to count. It is that Zimbabwean learning, ingenuity and professional development can connect to work on a global stage. OurPride should document scientists, technicians, educators and innovators working inside Zimbabwe just as thoroughly.
