Strive Masiyiwa is a Zimbabwean-born telecommunications entrepreneur and founder of Econet. According to Econet's published history, he returned to Zimbabwe in 1984, worked as a telecommunications engineer and started his first business in 1986. His career connects the expansion of African mobile networks with the rise of locally founded technology companies.

Econet says its mobile operations began in Zimbabwe and Botswana in 1998. Over time, the wider group developed interests in telecommunications, infrastructure, cloud and data centres. Today its published business history includes Cassava Technologies and Liquid Intelligent Technologies among its investments.

Masiyiwa's story also includes education philanthropy through family foundations, according to his published biography. Those figures should remain attributed to the reporting organisations and periodically reviewed rather than presented as independently audited OurPride totals.

An expanded profile should document the regulatory disputes and commercial decisions around early mobile-network licensing, as well as the contributions of engineers, employees, partners and customers who helped create Zimbabwe's telecommunications era.
