In July 2026, the International Cricket Council reported that Zimbabwe Cricket had confirmed Josephine Nkomo as captain of the senior women's national side. This was a verified leadership appointment, not a claim that she was the first woman ever to captain Zimbabwe.

In September, Zimbabwe hosted South Africa for a five-match women's T20 International series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. The ICC said the visit was the South African women's team's first to Zimbabwe, and identified Nkomo among the returning players.

Behind the captaincy announcement is a wider network of women and girls in cricket. Future OurPride coverage should document Zimbabwe's domestic clubs, schools, coaching teams and the individual women whose performances shaped the game.
