In December 2021, a bus and a fuel tanker collided on the Harare–Mutare road. Sirizani Butau, who was driving a different truck, stopped and attempted to help people trapped in the wreckage. Contemporary newspaper accounts reported that he helped eight people and suffered serious burns.

The incident was a tragedy in which several people lost their lives. The 26 December account in Sunday News and a separate NewsDay report described both the fatal crash and Butau's decision to assist, rather than reducing the event to a viral image.

His actions drew widespread public recognition. The story reminds us that Zimbabwean communities contain people whose contribution is expressed through immediate practical help, even outside any official title.

This account is based on named contemporary journalism. It does not reproduce photographs of injured people, make claims about his current circumstances or present the fatal incident as entertainment.
