In May 2004, Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter Tatenda Taibu captained the national side in a Test match against Sri Lanka in Harare at the age of 20 years and 358 days. Contemporary reporting recorded that he had become the youngest Test captain in the sport's history.

The record was later broken by Afghanistan's Rashid Khan in 2019, according to CricketArchive's comparative records. OurPride describes Taibu as the youngest at the time, not the current world record holder.

His achievement belongs alongside accounts of Zimbabwe's school, club and international cricket, and the people who supported younger players taking on major leadership responsibilities.
