Independence is an important starting point for this 1980–2026 archive, but it is not the start of every Zimbabwean story. In this retrospective, celebrate the 1980 women's hockey gold, Zimbabwe's 1983 cricket breakthrough, the first Test in 1992 and the arrival of mobile telephony in the 1990s. These were not the achievements of one person or one institution. Team rosters, ordinary subscribers, the coaches at the ground and the engineers behind a switchboard all belong in the national story. Each record explains what was genuinely first—and what was simply an important milestone—so pride does not have to depend on exaggeration.
